Theodore Croteau
(December 29, 1913 – August 30, 2011)
On Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the age of 97, Dad died peacefully at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon after a short bout of cancer.
He was born in Mattes, SK. He married Marie-Louise Dumais on October 29, 1945. He farmed in Debden until 1975, then retired to Prince Albert. In October 2006 Dad and Mom moved to Oliver Place in Saskatoon. Ted loved the farm and the land. He was industrious and creative and a little ahead of his time, developing a type of no till (one pass) farming many years before it became popular.
He had many hobbies which involved metal working, welding and inventing things that were useful and practical. Ted loved his family and was a great provider. It was a great sense of satisfaction and pride that all the children got an education. He loved the get-togethers at Christmas and whenever family would come to visit. He was generous with his time and energy, always ready to assist family, friends and neighbors. Church was very important and his faith was deep and unshakeable.
Dad leaves to mourn his loving family: his wife of 65 years of marriage Marie-Louise; his son Joe (Anita) Croteau of Saskatoon; his daughters Estelle (Curtis) George of Winnipeg, MB, Marguerite (Gabriel) Gareau of Saskatoon, Georgeline (Paul) Gaudet of Cranbrook, BC, Joanne Marie (Guy) Dupas of Winnipeg and Lucille (Gerry) Meeds of Calgary, AB; his 11 grandchildren Glenn (Sandra), Keith (Lana) and Kyle (Tanys) Gareau, Patrick (Laura), Richard (Veronika) and Bryan (Krista) Gaudet, Shawna (Brent) Fehr and Timothy (Robbi-Lee) Meeds, Michelle, Chantal and Janelle Dupas; 23 great-grandchildren; his sister Berthe of the Sisters of the Precious Blood of Quebec. He was predeceased by his son Albert; his parents Emile and Georgiana (née Senecal) Croteau; his brother Father George Croteau, omi; his four sisters Jeannette, Lorette, Estelle and Annette of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Oliver Lodge who took such great care of Dad.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4 Avenue West by Father Matthew Nguyen. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Angels of Care Campaign, Oliver Lodge, 1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7L 2R5.
Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
