Terry Edmour Phaneuf
December 20th, 1958 – November 15th, 2024
With very heavy hearts, the family of Terry Phaneuf announce his passing on November 15th, 2024, following a lengthy illness. Many family members were by his side throughout his final days.
Terry was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and he would often fondly reminisce of the fun times he had growing up with his buddies and attending St. Mary High School. After attending the University of Saskatchewan, Terry entered the business world. He co-owned and operated two hotels, first in Vanscoy and then in Lloydminster. He later moved to Maple Ridge, BC to join his brothers in the fast-food business, while also being involved in the development of the Southwood Estates senior community and the River Breeze Retirement Complex, both in Prince Albert.
He was an avid reader of current events and all types of knowledge articles, and as a result, he was our “go to” guy for advice on just about anything. He was our Siri, before there was Siri. In addition, we all kept him busy with lots of renovation projects at the Emma Lake cabin and our many home projects, which he always completed or coordinated with meticulous perfection.
Terry really enjoyed road trips. He travelled extensively with various family members throughout Canada, the USA and Mexico. He also enjoyed spending summers, and especially the quiet and colorful fall season, at the family cottage at Emma Lake. He did many hikes through Kanaka Creek in BC with the ever-faithful golden retriever, Lady. He always had a soft spot for all the family pets.
He often spoke fondly of memorable (and usually comical) family events spent with his many uncles, aunts and cousins. His affection for his parents and siblings was plainly apparent in everything he did for us. However, his nieces and nephews especially, held a very special place in his heart. “Uncle Terry”, will forever be remembered as a very special Uncle, who was always there when anyone needed him.
Terry truly was a kind, gentle and selfless person who touched so many lives, and we will miss him dearly.
Terry is survived by his mother, Irene Phaneuf of Maple Ridge, BC; his sister, Vivian and (Don) Lloyd of Prince Albert, SK, and their children, Joel and (Ashley) and their children Maya and Hudson of Saskatoon, SK, Shawn and (Andrea) and Travis Lloyd and his son Jaxon of Prince Albert, SK; his brother, Norm Phaneuf and his children, Paige and Kai of Maple Ridge, BC; his brother Vern and (Elwira) Phaneuf and their children, Sophia and Kaitlyn of North Vancouver, BC; his sister, Elaine and (John) Spencer and their children, Benjamin and Colette of South Surrey, BC; and his brother, Brad Phaneuf and (Devina Burnet) of Port Coquitlam, BC. He was predeceased by his father, Edmour in 2007 and his brother, Lyle Darcy Phaneuf in 1963.
His mother Irene and his brother Norm were incredibly devoted to providing Terry with extra special comfort, care and support in his final years and we are very grateful for that.
The family would also like to express our sincerest thank you to all the caring and compassionate nurses, aids and doctors at the Eagle Ridge Hospital and Lakeshore Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local SPCA. A small private family celebration will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted in the care of Garden Hill Cremation & Funeral Services in Maple Ridge, BC. Condolences and memories may be sent to the family by visiting his obituary page at www.gardenhill.ca.
