HESJE, TANNES – late of Birch Hills, SK, passed away on July 14, 2013 in Birch Hills at the age of 95 years. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father. We will greatly miss our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by his two children: Karen (Darrell) Shaw of Calgary and Doug (Halina) Hesje of Prince Albert; four grandchildren: Tammy (Dean) Thompson of Birch Hills, Trevor (Tenille) Hesje of Brancepeth, Jocelyn (Darren) Robson of Cold Lake and Trenton Shaw of Calgary; nine great-grandchildren: April, Megan, Madison & Cole Thompson (Tammy and Dean), Nicolas, Jacob & Brantley Hesje (Trevor and Tenille) and Maya and Liam Robson (Jocelyn and Darren); as well as several nieces and nephews. Tannes was predeceased by his wife: Mabel Hesje; his parents: Karen Hesje (Kverneland) and Johan Hesje; his brothers: John Hesje, Kaari Hesje and two nephews: Clayton Hesje and Larry Hesje.
Dad was born in Lye Time, Norway and immigrated to Canada in 1928 with his mom and dad and five siblings. At the time he was ten years old and at this early age he demonstrated a quiet, kind and generous spirit. Dad is also known for his quiet sense of humor, love of life and his infectious manner to influence positively. When he enlisted in the armed services and went overseas in July of 1943 his quiet personality exhibited a deep commitment and loyalty to his country. At this time he served in many countries including North Africa, Italy and Holland. Dad was a hard worker and after thirty-four years on the farm he retired and engaged himself in many building projects: a chicken house, a garage on the farm, the Glad Tidings Church, the parsonage, his own home in Birch Hills, a cabin on the farm with a gazebo and a small garage. All of these projects give him enough credence for us to call him a “Builder”. Dad loved his community and was always willing to help. For years dad taught adult Sunday school classes and was very active in his church community. He faithfully attended church services, men’s prayer group and served for 26 years with credentials as a lay preacher with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. A big part of his involvement in the community was helping out with the odd projects, visiting the nursing home and delivering “Meals on Wheels.” He received a twenty-five year pin for this Community Service.
Dad always took great pride in growing gardens and loved to help pick berries and also eat a few. He enjoyed harvesting the fruit of his labor, visiting the country, spending time with family, and celebrating family birthdays. Grandchildren and great grandchildren brought many smiles to him as they visited and played together.
We give our sincere thanks and gratitude to all the nurses and staff at Birchview nursing home for their excellent loving care for Dad for the past year and a half. In memory of Tannes Hesje, charitable donations may be made to Birchview Home (Facelift) (furniture for sitting area), General Delivery, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0 or to donor of your choice.
