GAUDET, Sylvio Aurèle Germain Joseph
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sylvio Gaudet on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 89.
Sylvio was born on September 18, 1936, at the original Bellevue, Saskatchewan location, 3½ miles southwest of the present hamlet. He was the youngest of ten children, the last of the Gaudet siblings of his generation. Raised in a close-knit community, he grew up grounded in the values of Catholic faith, hard work, family, and neighbourly kindness. He shared a special bond with his brothers and sisters that carried on through the years with their families, who affectionately called him “Mon-Onc Sylvio.”
On October 24, 1957, Sylvio married the love of his life, Norma Morrison of Hoey, Saskatchewan. Together, they built a life rooted in the Bellevue community, where they farmed and raised their family. In later years, they moved to Sunset Lodge in St. Louis (2010), then to Foyer de Bellevue Care Home (2019), and finally to Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw (2020).
Sylvio began his life’s work in grain farming and a farrow-to-feeder hog operation. He also raised chickens and took great pride in his potato garden. Over the years, he also had other employment in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. He cherished life’s simple pleasures: time spent with his farm dogs, playing cards, dancing with his beloved Norma and their daughters, singing traditional songs, fishing, camping, traveling, and sharing a beer—or as he would say,
“un petit coup.”
Even as his eyesight faded, his spirit remained strong. The values he lived by never wavered and were deeply woven into the fabric of his home and family life. Sylvio and Norma shared 67 years of marriage until her passing in 2024. Together, they showed that love is expressed not only in words, but in everyday acts of devotion.
They leave behind a remarkable legacy of a large and ever-growing family. Sylvio prayed for his family daily—a tradition he maintained faithfully, even in later years… although it was done quickly… Known lovingly as “Pépère,” he will be remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild through the songs, stories, and traditions he passed on.
Sylvio is survived by his six children: Mona Markwart (Larry), Carol Roy (Armand), Pat Gaudet (Rob Sorensen), Joan Sinclair (Jack), Perry Gaudet (Gail), and Cindy Gaudet (Glenn Hamilton); 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma (Morrison); his parents, Adrien and Valéda (Dupuis) Gaudet; his siblings and their spouses: Yvette (Pierre Albert), Maurice (Cécile), Laurence (Joe Branger), Gilberte (Robert Normand), Madeleine (Georges Gareau), Carmen (Laurent Boucher), Emilienne (Stanley Kamieniecki), Yolande (Saül Théorêt), and Rita (Robert Prince); as well as his grandchild Éric Roy and great-grandchildren Eva Denis and Marie-Pierre Carlson Sinclair.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge for the exceptional care provided to Sylvio.
Honouring his wishes, a private family service will be held, followed by interment at Bellevue Cemetery, where Sylvio and Norma will be laid to rest side by side—together again, continuing their dance in eternal love.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bellevue Care Home, P.O. Box 27, St. Isidore de Bellevue, SK S0K 3Y0.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, Saskatchewan.
