It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Leader at the age of 47. Susan was sailing in Australian waters heading for Thailand when she became ill. She returned home and was diagnosed with Cancer 5 months ago. She passed away on Aug 27th in the Palliative care unit in Nanaimo B.C.
Susan is loved and survived by her husband, Wayne Wilson, Ladysmith, BC; her parents, Howard & Shirley Leader, Prince Albert; her sisters, Barbara Leader, Calgary; Glenda (Dennis Truba) Meath Park, and their children Lori Truba (Jeff DaSilva) and Darryl Truba. Wayne’s mother Irene, brothers, Frank, Les, and Gary, his sisters, Jan, Doris, Dianne, Faye and all their families.
Susan was born on May 30, 1965 in Marathon Ontario. She moved to Prince Albert in 1968. She graduated from Carlton High School in 1983 and later Medicine Hat College with a degree in Computer Programming. She began her career in Calgary where she met and married Wayne on July 20, 1990.
Susan loved kittens and fostered many for the Nanaimo SPCA. She was an excellent programmer, and was always helping with someones computer problems. Susan believed in kindness and asked that her corneas be given to the eye bank so someone else might see.
She was a passionate traveller and sailor. Their first venture was to Europe and starting in 1995 with their sail boat Daydream they visited ports in Mexico, The Baja, Hawaii, The Caribbean, Venezuela, the Panama Canal, and stopped at many south pacific Islands on the way to Australia where their sail boat is presently anchored.
The funeral service was held on August 31st at Ladysmith United Church. Her ashes were buried in the Ladysmith Cemetery, just across the bay from her home.
