Steven Toderash
1945 – 2025
Steven Toderash passed away peacefully in the morning hours of June 19, 2025 at the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, SK.
Steve was born on a farm on April 13, 1945, 4 miles north of White Beech, SK. He was the youngest of seven children. His siblings were John, Mike, Lena, Bill, Peter, and Annie.
Steve is survived by his three sons Robin (Bridget), Tevin, and Guy, all of Alberta; and his brother Peter (Lois) of Ste Genevieve, Manitoba; and numerous other family and friends
While growing up Steve went to Smokey Spruce School which was one mile west from home. He had many friends from school and the community. A memorable time for Steve was when he was 10 years old in 1955 his brother John took him to Kamsack to the celebration of Saskatchewan being a province now for 50 years. This was the Golden Jubilee a big celebration in small town, that many community people attended.
After leaving school, Steve found work at age 17 painting with Jim Hunt in Swan River with his small crew. Painting became his career with different painters for all of his work years.
He bought his first car on October 18, 1963. It was a 1953 Green Ford 4 dr, 8 cylinder private sale from Lloyd Rusk of Kenville, MB for $390.00. Then 12 days later he was driving north of Swan River about 200 yards past the bridge and on ice skidded and rolled the car end over end. He fell out the back open door onto the grass and missed the telephone pole. There were no seat belts then. A friend Harold Brade came by and picked him up and after three stitches he went to his brother’s place. As they both went to the police station to make a report they came upon a scene where a policeman was trying to put an inebriated man in jail. The inebriated man had him bent over backward across the step railing and the policeman was helpless. Steve and his brother quickly got out of the car and they each grabbed a leg and pulled him off the policeman who then cuffed and jailed him. That day Steve’s life was spared in the roll over, and the policeman was rescued.
Steve continued working as a painter starting in Swan River, then moved to Thompson for a short period, then moved to Yorkton, and another move to Edmonton. At age 62 after 44 years of painting he retired and moved to Prince Albert.
His faith was strong as a Christian as he spent quite a bit of time reading scripture and listening to gospel music. He talked to his brother usually once a week. Steve was comfortable knowing that there was a place in Heaven for him when the earthly life is over and the soul never dies.
Steve lived in Rose Garden Hospice Prince Albert from February 15, 2025 until his passing June 19, 2025. The family wishes to thank all the staff for the compassionate care they provided Steve and making him comfortable, and also Pastor Bergen from the Alliance Church and all those who came to see him.
A Graveside Service will be planned for later this summer.
