Steve Korol
1923- 2014
Steve John Korol, age 91, beloved husband of the late Marion Korol, of Prince Albert, SK passed away in early hours of Friday, October 31, 2014. Steve was born August 20, 1923 in Lubenka, Poland and he was the first son of the late John and Mary Korol. Steve’s birth mother died in Poland, and at the age of 5 he travelled by boat with his father to Canada to begin farming in Foxford. His father remarried and Steve’s family grew with 4 brothers, Walter (Judy), Bruno (Olga), Joe (Doreen) and Stan (Liz), and one sister Lynn (Stan) Skulmoski. He had four children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren: his son Larry (Lynne) Korol of Martinsville, SK and grandchildren Jeff, Kevin (Rachel), and Scott with great grandchildren Braxtyn, Jagger; his daughter Gloria (Wayne Smith) of Prince Albert, SK; his son Brian Korol, of Calgary AB and granddaughter: Kari (James) with great grandchildren Wyatt, Hunter, and Hudson, grandson: Brad (Anna) with great grandchild Aiden; his daughter Debra (Barry) Ferner of Saskatoon, SK and granddaughter Mandy. He was predeceased by his wife Marion (July 11, 2008), his brother Walter and his younger sister Lynn Skulmoski. After coming from Poland, Steve worked on the farm and acquired more land as time went on. He was a hard worker and noted for his strength and ambitions; along with assisting in caring for his younger siblings. He always found time for his passions: fishing and hunting. Steve was always looking for some new endeavors to make his fortune. He farmed in Foxford where his family homestead was, and then moved to Choiceland with his wife and 4 children. He continued to farm and ran the Choiceland Park Theater. He also had a pool hall near Tobin Lake area. During the winters he would work up North (Resolute Bay and many other Northern areas) doing all sorts of jobs – from cooking to ploughing snow – anything to make a dollar. In 2007, it was tough to quit farming, but he had no choice as his wife began her fight with cancer. They moved to Prince Albert where Steve lived at Northcote Manor until July 2013. His health forced his move to Sunnydays Care Home, Victoria Hospital and then to Mt. St. Joseph Home until his passing. Anybody that knew him also knew that he always found time to go to his ‘watering hole’ – the casino. He had two passions in life: casino and eating. He sure did enjoy his food. Rest in peace Dad and we hope the food is great! As per Steve’s wishes, there will be no funeral; but a family interment will be held for both Steve, and his ‘Queenie’ Marion, to their place of rest – South Hill Cemetery.
