Sr. Thérèse Fortier
December 21, 1927 ~ April 16, 2022
Sister Thérèse Fortier was born on December 21, 1927, in Debden, SK, the tenth of eleven children. She was enrolled in the local Mattes country school until she completed her grade ten, she then graduated at Stobart School in Duck Lake. In the summer of 1947, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and received her training in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.
For 34 years, Sister Thérèse was a dedicated teacher, as well as a leader of groups such as Jeannettes, Legion of Mary, Catholic Action, and Summer Camps. In retirement, she extended her numerous talents to the Associates of the Presentation of Mary community, Church Ministries such as RCIA and Ecumenical Bible Groups. Students and members of adult faith sharing groups from Spiritwood, Medstead, Shell Lake, Marcelin, Vawn, Debden, Bellevue and Rivier Academy have fond memories of their joyful and energetic teacher and friend.
In 2016, in need of health-care, Sister Thérèse was admitted in the Infirmary. On October 4th, 2017, she was transferred to Mont Saint Joseph, where she received very good and compassionate care.
Sister Thérèse will be remembered for her devotion to the Blessed Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary and our Foundress, Marie Rivier. Sister Thérèse loved her community members. She was a “Little Woman” with a zeal to move mountains as she strove to make Jesus Christ known and loved as a true daughter of our Mother, Marie Rivier.
» (Ps 138)
Sister Thérèse was a woman of prayer. During her many years of being totally deaf, she embraced the mystery that is God’s love. She now rests quietly in that mystery.
