Sr. Sidonie Goeujon
February 14, 1922 ~ April 18, 2022

Sister Sidonie (Sr. Saint-Ignace) was born on February 14, 1922 in Cantal, SK, where her father farmed the land. Throughout her years of schooling, Sidonie was in contact with religious communities: at a young age with ‘Les Soeurs Notre Dame de la Croix’ at Wauchope, SK, near Cantal. When the family moved to St. Lazare, Manitoba, her teachers were the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. In 1940, she felt called to become a member of that Congregation.

Her teaching career began at the convent and school in Sweetsburg, QC. Upon arriving in the western Canada in 1945, Sr. Sidonie was stationed in Duck Lake, at St. Michael School. Her teaching career spanned twenty-five years in various places in Saskatchewan: Prince Albert, Duck Lake, Spiritwood, Green Lake, Vawn, Marcelin, Debden, and in St. Lazare, MB. In 1971, with her usual enthusiasm, she enrolled in the ‘Nurses Aide’ program in Winnipeg, MB. For the next three years, Sister gave nursing care in Winnipeg and St. Boniface hospitals and at the Sisters’ Infirmary in Prince Albert, SK.  In later years, her zeal and energy called her to other countries such as Rome-Italy, England and Switzerland, where she ministered as housekeeper, receptionist, and nurse. In 1999, as her health declined, her religious community welcomed her back to Prince Albert. She then served as librarian – coding books, drafting reports, and being of help to her Sisters. In 2018 Sister Sidonie, in need of more health care, moved to the Sisters’ Care Home, 3101-3^rd Ave East in Prince Albert. In the midst of so much activity, Sister Sidonie was always a “Woman of Interior Prayer.”

A priest-friend writes : “Sidonie a traversé sa dernière nuit obscure pour déboucher dans la lumière de son aube pascale. Elle emporte avec elle un centenaire de beaux souvenirs. Que son Seigneur vienne en personne lui ouvrir la porte!! »

We rejoice with Sister Sidonie – her great desire to see God and dwell in His presence has been fulfilled. She is forever with her Mother Mary, Mother of the Redeemer!!

The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Chapel of the Provincial House of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, 1405 Bishop Pascal Place, Prince Albert, SK, The Most Reverend Stephen A. Hero, Bishop of Prince Albert, Very Reverend Maurice Fiolleau, Vicar General, and Reverend Fr. DJ Vu, Chaplain of Mont St. Joseph officiating.
