Sophia Zaparaniuk (Labiuk)
(July 24, 1926 – October 6, 2011)
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our mother Sophia Zaparaniuk of Prince Albert on October 6, 2011. Mom passed peacefully in her sleep and will be sorrowfully missed by her loving family.
Mom was born on her parents homestead near Prince Albert, SK. Mom attended and graduated from The School For the Deaf in Saskatoon. Later she married John Zaparaniuk and moved to Shipman, SK. There, mom and dad raised a family and later moved into Prince Albert. Our parents loved us very much, loved to visit each and every one of their children and were always very proud of us.
Our mother changed many peoples thinking about being a deaf-mute as there was nothing our mom would not challenge. Mom loved to travel, visiting her children in Flin Flon, Edmonton, Jasper and Calgary. Mom had friends through the years but her last few years were special years at Northcote Manor. Mom was always encouraged by Verna her best friend to sit with the ladies at the card table in her special place to be part of the group. Mom played lots of Shuffleboard, Verna taught mom a card game that they would play together.
Our mom got many hugs and hellos from the Northcote Gang so God Bless all of you at the Manor. Our mom also taught us and her grandchildren even if someone communicates differently we are all the same.
Sophia was predeceased by her husband John E. Zaparaniuk in 1989. She also is predeceased by her sister Marian Leschyshn and two brothers, Bill and John Labiuk. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Diane and Don King, grandchildren, Barry, Billy, Tyler King and Wendy Heckley, two great grandchildren Kelsey and Josh Heckley. Carol Grunerud and long-time partner Reno Basso, granddaughter Trina, husband Dr. Jack Carter, two great grandchildren Jacob and Matthew. Joyce Jensen, grandson Bill Jensen, great grandson Lynden. Sonia Karen Zaparaniuk. Nanette, husband Jerald JeanCarte, grandchildren Danielle and Brenen. Son Randy, grandson Jonathon.
A sincere thank you and recognition for the compassion you showed our mother in her final days to Bev’s Care and to the staff at the Melfort Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Northern Funeral Service ~ MacKenzie Chapel, Prince Albert at 11:00AM. Interment at Shipman Orthodox Cemetery.
