With a deep sense of loss, we advise of the death of Sophia Jean Till (Capusten) on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
Sophia was born in Prince Albert and grew up in the Strongpine District. She completed high school at the Sion Academy, after which she entered the Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at the Holy Family Hospital for several years, choosing, then, to work at the Sanatorium for a brief time. She then joined the Saskatchewan Public Health Program. After receiving her public health diploma from the University of Saskatchewan, she worked for many years serving the Prince Albert and Yorkton Health Regions. She made many lifelong friends, in the numerous small communities she served.
Sophia is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard “Dick” Till and her daughter Bernadette Till; her nieces Marlene Powling, Dr. Bernice Capusten, Donna (Gary) Copan, Deborah (Gerry) Folk, Shirley Maerz, Connie Frohlick, Gayle (Don) Maier; her nephews Steve Capusten, Rodney (Sherry) Frohlick ; her special cousins, Wanda Bzdell and Joseph Capustinsky.
Sophia was predeceased by her parents, Maxim and Maria Capusten, her sister Pauline Dembiski, and three brothers, Anthony, John and Steven Capusten.
Sophia was an avid gardener and particularly enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends, personally and by phone. She was a caring, understanding, sensitive, and helping person who many times went beyond the call of duty to help those who needed extra assistance. She was quick to initiate conversation with everyone she met. She was dedicated to her family and had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Sophia especially enjoyed the 20 years of wintering in Arizona, and the friendship with her Arizona family.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Fr. Maurice Fiolleau celebrating. Attendees are invited to join the family for lunch, immediately following the Mass.
Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Sophia’s memory, can do so to the Sacred Heart Cathedral Renovation Fund or a charity of their choice.
