Sonja Otte
June 11, 1932 – December 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Sonja Constance Otte (nee Aalen) announce her passing on December 20, 2022, at the age of 90 years. She passed away at Victoria Union Hospital with family at her bedside.

Sonja was predeceased by her husband, James Otte; her parents, Carl and Solveig Aalen; her sister, Alphild Drobot; her sister-in-law, Ruth Aalen; her brother-in-law, Edward Otte; her nephew, David Otte; and her niece, Karen Drobot.

Sonja is survived by her children, Lois Otte and Bryan Otte (Sharon); her grandchildren, Andrew Otte, Christopher Otte, Chantel Casemore (Bryden), Jared Otte (Samantha), Landon Otte (Esther), Justin Otte (Danielle) Matthew Otte, Mikealah Otte and Sarah Otte; her great-grandchildren, Aubryn and Eliana; and her siblings, Enda Gowriluk, Ken Aalen, and Anne Aalen.

Sonja was born on June 11, 1932, on her parent’s homestead near Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan. Being determined to be a nurse, she moved to Prince Albert to attend high school, then enrolled in the nursing program at the Victoria Union Hospital. There she worked until her retirement. Sonja was hard working but also full of mischief and fun. It was during her nursing education that Sonja met her husband James Otte. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at their cabin at Candle Lake. Sonja enjoyed traveling, crocheting, playing cards, ski-dooing, cross country skiing and playing golf. She was often busy doing volunteer work.

The family would like to thank Bethesda Care Home for their wonderful care over the past years; as well as the ICU staff at Victoria Union Hospital for their compassion during her last hours.

The Memorial Service for Sonja will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, May 22, 2023, at River Park Funeral Home, in Prince Albert, SK.
