SLAWKO ZAIACHKOWSKI
August 24, 1920 – April 1, 2013
The family of Slawko Zaiachkowski sadly announce that Slawko passed away peacefully at the Big River Health Centre on April 1, 2013 at the age of 92. Slawko was born on August 24, 1920 at Kleczkowski, SK. (Oscar Lake) to Mike and Anna (Letwinitz) Zaiachkowski. He grew up on the farm and attended Krevoshein School (Oscar Lake School). On September 28, 1946 he married Mary Gresiuk. Together they continued farming until the fall of 1966, when they moved to the town of Hafford and they still farmed from town. Then Dad worked for the RM of Redberry as a maintenance man. As the years passed and their health was failing, in July of 2003, they both were admitted to the Big River Health Care Centre. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Big River Health Care Centre for the wonderful, loving and compassionate care, which allowed them to be together until the end. Dad was treated with dignity and respect for which we will forever be grateful. Slawko is survived by his step-daughter, Elsie Ann Yasieniuk and her children, Mervin (Rachelle), Merviana (Shane) Keating, Brian (Darcy), Richard (Sandra) and great grandchildren, Tammy (Jason), Cassidy, Codie, Tyler, Riley, Kolten, Bailey, Justin, Rayna and Courtney and a great great granddaughter, Savanah; step-son, Orest Paul Gresiuk and his children, David (Donna), Tim, Myrna and great grandchildren, Kristine, Alexandra, Stephanie, Alynn, Victoria and Samuel; sister, Lillian; brother, Victor; sisters-in-law, Violet, Maryann, Shirley, Irene, Annie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (2011); parents, Mike and Anna; son-in-law, Paul (1996); brothers, Pete, George (Mary), John (Nettie), Mike, Edward; sisters, Pauline (Joe), Annie (Fred); brothers-in-law, Bill Zazubik and Dick Bodnarchuk. Dad was a devoted husband, step-father and grandfather. He loved farming, working in the field and with his cattle, but he also liked working for the RM with his buddies John, Pete and Walter. He was a man of few words, however, these were always careful, cautious and definitive. May you rest in peace. We all love you and will miss you. Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 7:00 PM. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Both services will be held at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church at Hafford, SK. Donations in memory of Slawko may be made to the Big River Health Care Centre or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.hawrylukfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to Hawryluk Funeral Home. 466.4822
