Sister Thérèse St. Pierre
Posted Aug 30, 2021 | 3:36 PM

Sister Thérèse was born on May 11, 1928, in Wakaw, SK. When the family moved to Prince Albert, she attended school and graduated at the Academy of the Sisters of Sion.
In 1947 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. In 1952, she went to Teachers’ College in Winnipeg, MB. She taught in Laurier, Manitoba for 11 years, one year in Albertville, and 6 years in Debden. In 1976 she took a 9 year leave from teaching to take care of her aging mother, then returned to Rivier Academy in Prince Albert for her final years of teaching.
She instilled in her students a sense of self-worth, a love of beauty and pride in work well done. Throughout her lengthy career, her classrooms were always beautifully and artistically decorated. This creative talent spilled over in everything she did.
For many years, Sr. Thérèse was entrusted with leadership roles in the Congregation during which she enhanced the Liturgical Celebrations with hints of what cannot be perceived by the naked eye but found in the depths of your heart.
Sister Thérèse loved her family dearly, her religious community, her students and the people she encountered. In July 2018, as her health was failing and she needed more care she moved to our Infirmary until God called her home for her eternal reward on August 28, 2021.
She leaves to mourn the members of her religious community; one brother, Roger (Kathleen) St. Pierre; her sister-in-law, Claire (Larivière) St. Pierre; and numerous nephews and nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members.
Sister Thérèse was predeceased by her parents, Alexandre and Émilienne (de l’Église); three sisters, Emma (Harry) Dowson; Rose-Anne (George) Samoila and Cécile (Joseph) Merkowsky; four brothers, Arsène, Henri, Armand and Gérard.
She will be fondly remembered for her untiring enthusiasm, for her sensitive love of beauty and for being a warm fun-loving person. Whatever she presented to her students, to her religious community or to the general public was marked with the love of God, of our Mother Mary, of our Foundress, Marie Rivier and the joy of life to be celebrated fully.
This quote summarizes Sr. Thérèse’s love of life. “When you touch minds, people are willing to walk a dozen miles for you; and when you touch hearts, people are willing to walk a thousand miles for you; but when you touch souls, people are willing to walk a million miles for you.” (Matshona Dhliwayo)
May you enjoy the heavenly beauty in the Presence of your God that you served so lovingly and faithfully.
May you now rest in God’s loving arms.
