Sister Marie Bouchard
(Marie-Dominique)
December 2, 1936 ~ February 9, 2021
Sister Marie Bouchard was born December 2, 1936 in Laurier, Manitoba. She was the fifth of twelve children in a French Canadian family with strong Catholic roots. The local school was the lieu of her elementary and secondary studies. On July 30, 1955, at the age of 19, Marie entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary where she pronounced her first vows on February 2nd, 1958.
After spending a year at Teachers’ College, Sister Marie began a 38 year career as an outstanding primary teacher and mentor. Her teaching assignments brought her to Debden, Duck Lake, Vawn, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Saskatchewan and Laurier, St. Lazare, The Pas, Manitoba. Her concern for each individual student was the foundation of a positive learning experience for all. Her unlimited energy, positive attitude and creativity were easily communicated to those in her care. Sister Marie’s love of teaching and her kindness influenced many students who remember her to this day.
Upon her retirement from teaching, Sister Marie spent several years journeying with the elderly and ailing Sisters at the Infirmary in Prince Albert. She enjoyed her hobbies of knitting, sewing and playing cards. Her greatest joy was to bring comfort and pleasure to others. “Love, serve and bring happiness to others” was her motto. All those who met her have been enriched by her presence.
Sister Marie will be fondly remembered by her religious community, relatives, students and friends for her energy, loving smile, hospitality and genuine care for others. Her life and work emanated from her deep love of God and her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her dynamism and prayerfulness have truly touched many lives. She will be missed dearly by her Sisters of the Presentation, her family, Mont St. Joseph residents and all those who have known her. May she rest in peace…
