Sister Genevieve Thille
Sister Genevieve Thille (Rose-of-the-Sacred-Heart) of the Sisters of the Presentation, passed away on Sunday, March 25th, 2012 at the age of 83 in the Provincial House Infirmary. Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. by His Excellency Bishop Albert Thevenot both from the Provincial House Chapel. Sister Genevieve leaves to mourn the members of her religious community; one sister-in-law Martha Guillou and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and RoseAlma Doucette; three sisters Florence (Henry Roesch), Grace and Hazel, of the Order of Grey Nuns, Isabelle of the Sisters of the Presentation; two brothers, Albert and Leonard (Réjane Hébert). Sister Thille was born September 12, 1929 in Rosthern, SK. In 1946 she joined the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation in St. Hyacinthe, QC. Upon returning in the West she taught at St. Lazare and Laurier, MB and in Saskatchewan at Spiritwood, Vawn, Makwa and the Academy Presentation of Mary in Prince Albert. After catechetical studies in Chicago and Edmonton, Sister Genevieve served as Director of Religious Education for the Prince Albert Diocese. She held this position from 1968 to 1985. Through her efforts and skills, the resource centre and library at the Diocesan Chancery Office became a reality. In 1984 she prepared the diocese for the Papal Visit to Canada. After a year of renewal and rest in Quebec in 1985, Sister served at convents in Winnipeg and Le Pas, MB, returning to Prince Albert in 1989. In February 1990, she became the coordinator for the Diocesan Centennial Celebrations which were a great success. In the fall of 1992, Sister began devoting herself to pastoral work in various parishes. At this time, she was stationed in Spiritwood. She was transferred to Melfort in the fall of 1996 and took up pastoral responsibilities in the parishes of Melfort, St. Brieux and Kinistino. Her religious community and many in the Prince Albert Diocese will remember Sister Thille as an educator, innovator, artist, organizer, cataloguer, analyst and catalyst of trends to come in the field of religious education. Sister Genevieve is an inspiration to those who mourn her passing. Interment will take place in the Sister’s Section, South Hill Cemetery.
