Sister Annette Labrecque

Sister Annette Labrecque, (Sister Marie-du-Saint-Esprit) of the Sisters of the Presentation, passed away on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at the age of 89 in the Provincial House Infirmary at 1405 Bishop Pascal Place in Prince Albert, SK. Prayer service will be held in the Provincial House Chapel in Prince Albert, SK on December 13th at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14th, at 10:00 a.m. by His Excellency Albert Thévenot. Sister Annette was born in Debden, SK on May 6, 1927 and received her early education there. After graduating at Stobart, Duck Lake, SK in 1945, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in St. Hyacinthe, QC. Upon returning to the West and after a year at Teacher’s College in 1949, Sister Annette taught in various centres in Saskatchewan: St. Joseph, Prince Albert; Marcelin; Stobart, Duck Lake. In 1955 and for the next ten years, she fulfilled duties of principal as well as full time teacher in senior grades in Vawn. An appointment to serve as Provincial Assistant brought her to Prince Albert for one year. Then followed a year of studies at “Régina Mundi” in Rome, and in 1966, Sister Annette became Provincial Superior of the Sisters of Prince Albert. Sister served in that capacity for the next thirteen years with great dedication, enthusiasm and wisdom. She was a woman of faith, sincere love of the church and of her community. Thereafter Sister Annette enjoyed short terms as local superior in Saskatoon, SK, as principal at Rivier Academy in Prince Albert, SK, as secretary and receptionist at Holy Rosary Parish in Winnipeg, MB and as local superior in Debden, SK. In the fall of 1993, she was transferred to Prince Albert and served as Assistant Manager of Marion Aquatics. Sister Annette is survived by: the Members of her Religious Congregation; three sisters Rose-Marie (Elmer) Campbell of Bothell, WA, Aline Monette of Nanaimo, BC and Anna (Gordon) Jones of Victoria, BC; sister-in-law Lydia of Port Alberni, BC; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by: parents Louis and Rose (née Demers) Labrecque, four brothers and sisters-in-law Henri (Lydia), Gérard (Candida Perrina), Philippe (Blanche Huot), Denis (Pamela Clarke), brothers-in-law Ross Monette, Elmer Campbell and Gordon Jones. Her family, sisters, students and many friends, will never forget her enthusiasm, energy and wit. Sister Annette’s genuine gift and love of teaching inspired her vision in each of her assignments. Her prayerfulness and dynamism have truly touched many lives. Cremation will take place following the funeral mass with interment of cremated remains in the Sisters’ Section at South Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, December 14 at 4:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL (306) 764-2727, Don Moriarty and Louise Robert, Funeral Directors
