Sister Anita Foillard
1931 ~ 2022
Sister Anita Fouillard was born in the beautiful surroundings of the Qu’Appelle Valley, in St. Lazare, Manitoba, on March 15th, 1931. She was the sixth child of a family of nine. She grew up in a loving Christian household resounding with music instruments and singing, a home where everyone was welcome. Most of her school years were in St. Lazare where she became acquainted with the Sisters Presentation of Mary. Sr. Anita was gifted with an exceptionally beautiful voice. At the age of seven she was already participating in choirs.
On July 27th, 1950, Sister Anita joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. She pronounced her vows on February 3rd, 1953.
Upon her return to Western Canada, she began her music teaching career, mostly in piano and voice. For fifty years, Sister Anita taught at the Rivier Academy Music Studio. She encouraged her students to develop their musical talents. Parents and students greatly appreciated Sister Anita for having brought music to a degree of excellence in Saskatchewan. Music Festivals were well attended and brought many rewards to her students. Dr. Lyell Gustin, who taught music for almost 70 years in Saskatoon, was a dear friend of Sr. Anita. Through Gustin House, she helped preserve his legacy for music and the fine arts. Wherever Sr. Anita sang, she enhanced the prayer and liturgies with her wonderful soprano voice.
As her health was failing, she moved to our Health Care Home on October 24th, 2012. Sister made one more move on June 22, 2021, to Mont St. Joseph (MSJ) Home, a special care home located in the City of Prince Albert, that is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prince Albert.
Sister Anita will be fondly remembered by her religious congregation, relatives, students and friends for her prayerfulness, friendliness, love of beauty, kind spirit and the joy of life.
Her work transpired from her deep love of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. On February 22nd, 2022 when she met her loving God, she must have been greeted by a beautiful choir of angels singing: “What you have done to the least of my brothers and sisters, you have done to me. Welcome into my Kingdom.”
And Sister Anita responding: « Je te rends grâces, Seigneur, de tout mon cœur…je te chante en présence des Anges… » (I give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart…I sing to you in the presence of angels)… (Ps 138(137). The Funeral Mass for Sister Anita will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Chapel of the Provincial House of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, at 1405 Bishop Pascal Place, in Prince Albert, SK, with Most Reverend Stephen A.
