Robert Sidney Scott
“Sid” was born on May 30, 1931, in Tisdale, SK, to Robert and Irma (nee Warren) Scott, and attended school at Chelan, SK. At the age of 16 he became employed with The Pas Lumber Company at Reserve, SK. Starting his life career in the kitchen and growing experience and knowledge from experienced chefs, Sid was part of the organization – Sask Cooks Association, getting cooking designated as a trade in the province. He was employed in Kemano, BC and the Dew Line in Cambridge Bay in Canada’s Artic North. In 1957, he met Bernice Lummerding and they were married on August 9, 1958. They were blessed with four children, Patricia in 1959, Gregory in 1961, Grant in 1963, and Brian in 1965. In 1962 Sid was employed by Sask Training School, later known as North Park Center, and Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw from 1976 – 1981 as food services manager, returning to Prince Albert in 1981. He served his fellow employees in Union Activity – Labor Council and on the local library board and Wapiti Regional Library Board, and was a Lifetime Member of the Canadian Culinary Chefs Association. Sid served on the curriculum board for Saskatchewan Trades Advisory Board in Saskatoon, on the P.A.C.A.D.A – Prince Albert Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the United Way, and was involved with the Boy Scouts in Prince Albert and Moose Jaw. He had 27 years service with the government of Saskatchewan. Sid enjoyed many summer days at their cottage at Candle Lake. After his retirement from North Park, he delivered SIAST courses in short order and professional cooking in northern communities of Saskatchewan and Duck Lake Residential School. He had a restaurant in Archerwill, followed by a bakery in Porcupine Plain in the early years of marriage. Sid played a large part in the lives of his three grandchildren, looking after them as well as assisting in their upbringing. He was always willing and ready to give a hand to his friends in need.
Sid was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Irma Scott; his sister, Ann; his brothers, Fred, Alvin and Floyd; his brothers-in-law, Walter and Herb; as well as members of Bernice’s family. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Scott; his children, Patricia (Robert McLeod), Greg (Karen), Grant and Brian (Val); his grandchildren, Kenneth, Patrick, and Miranda (Jake Guenther); his great-grandchildren, Jace, Ciara and Maidie; his siblings, John (Bev), Ellen and Gladys; his sisters-in-law, Ida and Diane; his brother-in-law, Milt; members of Bernice’s family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Sid may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 26 – 1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9. A Celebration of Sid’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at St. Michael Parish, 1505 13th Street West, Prince Albert.
