Sidney Altenberg

ALTENBERG, Sidney Ronald, late of Victoria, BC, passed away May 17, 2011 in Victoria, BC at the age of 75 years.
Sidney was born April 11, 1936 in Birch Hills, SK. He attended school at Waitville rural for Grades 1-4. In 1946 the new school, Waitville Hamlet, was opened where he took Grades 5-8. He took Grade 9 in Hagen, travelling on the train which left Waitville at 7:30am, returning at 10:30pm. The following year Sidney attended P.A.C.I. in Prince Albert, SK.
Sidney joined the Army and was stationed at Camp Borden, Ontario and Bridgetown, New Brunswick. After his discharge in 1958, Sidney returned to Prince Albert, working at various jobs until 1970 when he moved to Red Deer, AB and worked for the Federal Government for a time. Sidney then joined the Salvation Army and worked as a counsellor with them.
Sidney is survived by his son: Sid (Shirley Smith) Burns of Prince Albert, SK; his sisters: Lorna (Bud) Boyle of Saskatoon, SK, Sharon Warkentine of Kinistino, SK and Effie Warkentine of Kinistino, SK; his half-brothers: Godfred Sorenson of Inuvik and Peter Sorenson of Marshall, SK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Sidney was predeceased by his daughter Debbie; his parents Olaf and Edna (nee McNabb) Altenberg; his sister Gwen Erickson and his brother Donald.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday June 20, 2011 at 10:30am at Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel, 130-9th St. E, Prince Albert, SK.
