Shirley was the first of eleven children born to William and Annie Spademan on June 7, 1935. She passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital on July 14, 2023, with her family by her side. Shirley grew up with her Mom, Dad and siblings in Claytonville. She married the love of her life John Scragg, and to that union five children were born. They held barn dances and were always willing to help friends and neighbours at a moments notice. They had the first automobile and TV in Claytonville. They enjoyed visiting friends and playing kaiser. Farming together for 31 years allowed Shirley much enjoyment. She could always be found planting a huge garden, canning, milking cows and raising livestock. Shirley enjoyed making fudge and toffee for her siblings, and especially her famous chocolate cake! She was an excellent seamstress and wore out a few sewing machines making outfits for her children, grandchildren and her first-born nieces Jill, Faye, and Lily who she held close to her heart her entire life. Shirley worked as a cook one summer for an archaeologist camp. She enjoyed playing bingo and kaiser and recently started playing kaiser again which gave her much pleasure.
Left to celebrate a life well lived are her children, Lloyd Scragg, Esther (Bruce) Dempster, Irene Scragg, Alan (Lani) Scragg, and Kevin (Kerry) Scragg; her grandchildren, Dana (Mike) Johnson, Scott (Letitia) Dempster, Ryan (Shannon) Scragg, Kelly (Megan) Scragg, Amber Scragg, Jonathan Scragg and Megan Scragg; her great grandchildren, Mikey, Connor, Journie, and Brenden Johnson, George and Annika Dempster, Axel and Cooper Scragg; her siblings, Rosemary MacDonald of Steep Creek, Bob (Marie) Spademan of Prince George, Heather (Bob) Bunton of Sydney, Australia, Elizabeth McCarthy of Saskatoon, C.
