Shirley Carswell

Shirley Margaret Carswell was born February 14, 1933 at Dr. Brown’s house in Oungre, SK. She passed away in Weyburn on November 6, 2014 at the age of 81 years. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Margaret Spooner, her husband Bing (Ken) Carswell, infant grandsons Orren and Nevin Carswell, grandson Nathan Kilkenny, grandson-in-law Devin Hala, daughter-in-law Margaret Carswell and her brother Murray Spooner.
Shirley was raised in Lake Alma, SK and was working at the Sask Hospital in Weyburn when she met Bing. They were married and moved to Melfort in 1954, and this was her home right to the end.
Shirley is survived by her children Cam Carswell (Sue Koester), Megan Nuttall and Whitney Carswell, Jonathan (Sian) Kilkenny; Kendra (Stan Oshust), Amy Oshust and Melanie (Stacey) Freeman; Kelly-Ann (Bob Schad), Stacy (Ryan) Muxlow, Jo-Anne Hala, Rob Schad; Kevin Carswell (Patricia); Perry Carswell (Kathy), Kelsi (DJ) Wood, Alex, Keri and McKenna Carswell; Marcie Carswell (Rick Clermont), Lynsie and Haley (Jordan Cope) Clermont, foster son Randy (Louise) Drew and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother Gerald Spooner, sister Sally Hogan, brothers-in-law Doug Carswell and Vern Carswell and her sister-in-law Joan (Sam) Flett, many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves to mourn her passing many beloved friends from all corners of the province. She continued to nurture those relationships up to the time of her death.
In Shirley’s journal when she turned 80 she wrote that she knew her time here was getting shorter. She wrote these parting words to her children. “I will be watching over you from heaven and hope you will follow me here. Love one another and your neighbours, share with the needy and be good!!”
