Shirley Anne Helgason
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Anne Helgason, of Rosetown, SK. She passed away at the Rosetown & District Health Centre with her loving husband by her side, on March 26, 2016, at the age of 55 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her beautiful smile and love for life will be remembered by all.
Shirley was born at the Elrose Hospital on December 5, 1960 to Bill and Audrey Helgason. Shirley grew up in the town of Elrose and received her schooling there. After graduation, Shirley attended Robertson Secretarial School. On July 27, 1979, she married Robert Watson. They lived in Lacadena, SK. and then in Elrose, SK. where she worked at the Credit Union. In 1986, they moved to Prince Albert where Shirley operated a day home and taught piano lessons. Shirley’s love of music continued to grow and she furthered her musical education and completed her Grade 9 in music, while in Prince Albert. She loved to garden and spent many happy sun-filled hours with her children at Candle Lake. The family moved to Kindersley in 1995, where she was employed by Petro Canada, which later became Millsap Fuel Distributor. While in Kindersley she was actively involved in the church choir, the community choir and the music festival association. There was nothing Shirley loved more than a crowd and she spent hours in the kitchen cooking and entertaining. After the dissolving of her marriage, she moved to Rosetown where she worked at the Chamber of Commerce and met her spouse, Gord Letourneau. Soon after her move to Rosetown she began to pursue her dream of cooking for a living. This dream developed into Hidden Valley Farms Catering. Shirley spent many hours in the kitchen making Hidden Valley Farms Catering the huge success that it was. She loved her work as a caterer, the people she worked with and all the people she encountered. Shirley’s hobbies included: gardening, her berry orchard, knitting, crocheting, reading and music. Shirley never took anything lightly and poured her heart into all her projects.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her husband Gord Letourneau; her children, Cameron (Carmen) Watson; Kristina (Daniel) Lothammer and sons Hunter, Jensen, Kasen, and Sutton; Tanner Watson and son Emmett; Dallen (Darien Wagner) Watson; her step-children, Danielle (Trevor) Winny and children Marisa, Taia, Scott, and Matthew; Chantelle (Mike) de Coninck Smith and daughter Kiersten; Christopher Letourneau; and Janelle (Ryan) Baxter; her brothers, Byron(Marilyn) Helgason; Robert (Louisa) Helgason; sister, Carla (Doug) Leys; mother-in-law, Maxine Letourneau; sister-in-law, Lois (Barrie) Clark; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her parents William and Audrey Helgason, father-in-law Henry Letourneau, sister-in-law Vicky Helgason, and nephew, Dwight Leys.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating.
