Shelly was born in Kinistino and lived most of her life in Prince Albert. Shelly attended Connaught School, and graduated Grade 12 at Carlton Comprehensive High, she then continued her education by attending business classes at SIAST.
Shelly was a very independent woman, she worked all her life working as a part-time receptionist at the PA Friendship Center, dispatcher with Family Taxi, and more recently as a Walmart greeter. She was happy with her Walmart greeter job, she met and visited with so many people. Many people commented on her always having a smile and a hello for them and remembering her to say “have a good day, see you soon”. Because she lived alone, this job gave her the opportunity to visit with many friends and family. Shelly always tried to buy Christmas presents for all her nieces and nephews when they were small she had a heart of gold. If she had two cigarettes and someone asked her for one she gave it.
Shelly shared 10 years with the love of her life Delore Chaske, who passed away in in 2011 the year they had gotten engaged.
She never asked for help, you couldn’t carry her bags, you couldn’t push her wheelchair, she needed to do things for herself. She may have had the burden of using crutches since she was able to walk but that didn’t deter her from achieving goals in her life or working. Goals such as becoming the Volunteer of the year award in 1988 and 1990 for the PA Friendship Centre. She also volunteered for the Voices of the North in the early years and at many bingos. She loved calling bingo for the Elder’s bingo at the Centre, giving her the chance to visit with them.
Shelly was an avid bingo player herself, she would go to Downtown bingo to volunteer however ended up being a patron more often.
Shelly will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Cyril (Marilyn) Deschambeault, Marlene Sayer, Daniel (Brenda) Sayese, Dale (Sharon) Sayese, and Brenda (Victor Carriere) Sayese; her aunts Irene Daniels, Rachel McCormick, Florence Umpherville and Emily Umpherville; numerous nieces and nephews; her special friends Sylvia Henderson, Josephine Fiddler, Lillian Umpherville, and Jane Fiddler.
