Scott Charles Wright
With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, nephew, uncle, friend and colleague, Scott Charles Wright on September 27th, 2025. Only 54 years old, he was taken from us much too soon.
Scott was born to Bertha (Thorsen) and Brian Wright on August 23, 1971. He lived in Paddockwood with his parents and little brother Tobin until his parents were killed in a tragic car crash involving an impaired driver. The entire community reeled from this loss and always held a special place in their hearts for the boys. On February 13, 1977, Scott (age 5) and Tobin (age 2) came to live with Don and Donna Thorsen in Prince Albert. Scott was now not only a big brother to Tobin, but also to a sister, Cheralyn.
Scott attended Paddockwood, Vincent Massey, PACI, Carlton and St Mary’s schools. He enjoyed band and played the saxophone, and he was part of the PACI Jazz Band during junior high school. He also played baseball and hockey throughout his school years.
During holidays Scott would go out to Poppa and Grandma Wright’s farm. Poppa (Jim) Wright taught him carpentry and helped him with building projects. These experiences with carpentry helped him in his later life with the repair and renovations of the family’s home in Devon.
Scott took golf lessons and then practiced at Aunty Pat’s (Kachurs Golf Club). He excelled in golf and eventually became a golf professional. While Scott was in Lethbridge, he met Cindy Blair who was working at Paradise Canyon Golf Course. They moved to Edmonton and in 1999 their daughter Mykelti Mae, his “mini me,” was born. In 2000, their son Brydon Charles was born on Scott’s 29th birthday. Scott always said that Brydon was “the best birthday present” he ever received. Their little family was now complete, and it always included cats and dogs to love, and Scott especially loved his dog Teya.
For 13 years he worked for Black Gold School Division as a maintenance person for the schools in the division. Scott enjoyed his job and took pride in taking care of the schools and his work colleagues became friends. Whether it was music, renovations, or sports, he was talented at everything he tried.
Scott loved camping and fishing. He enjoyed weekends at “the pond” with his family and his best friends, Gord and Christine MacPherson. Mykelti was her Dad’s fishing and camping buddy; the two were “joined at the hip”. In the winter, he enjoyed downtime with Cindy, his children, and their pet’s watching movies and the Edmonton Oilers. They remained close with and shared holidays with his cousin Kim Doyle Thorsen and her family in Edmonton.
Scott’s cheerful attitude, kindheartedness, and quick wit were beloved. His warm smile and those big bear hugs will be dearly missed. He never said a bad word about anyone. He made the world a better place for all of us who knew and loved him.
Scott will be missed by his loving wife Cindy and his children, Mykelti and Brydon, his parents Don and Donna Thorsen, his brother Tobin (Emily) Wright, and sisters Cheralyn Thorsen and Carlee Thorsen (Steve Dowler), his mother-in-law Pearl Blair, sister-in-law Tammie Blair and brother-in-law Kyle Blair.
He was treasured by his aunts and uncles: Marlene Thorsen, Brenda (Richard) Bond, Cindy (Kenny) MacDonald, Pat Kachur (Don Best) and Kelly (Catherine) Thorsen, Margaret Wright (Michael Maeir), Beatrice Wright, Maureen Wright (Ron Casavant) and Wayne Wright, Lynne (Lenny) Gunville, Cameron (Anita) MacDonald, Colleen MacDonald and Myrna (Scott) Ridley.
He will be deeply missed by his many cousins, nieces and nephews as well.
Scott was predeceased by his birth parents, Brian and Bertha (aka Bert and Charlie) Wright: his grandparents: Jim and Mary Wright, Laurence and Gussie Thorsen, and Ken and Ivy MacDonald; his father-in-law John Blair; and his uncles: Denis Wright, George Doyle, Laurie Thorsen, and Neil MacDonald.
Scott’s interment will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday October 25th 2025 at the Paddockwood Cemetery. Rev. Nora Vedress will be the officiant. A memorial and lunch will follow at Kachur’s Golf Course.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to The Cardiac Fund at the University of Alberta Hospital (https://givetouhf.ca/donate-now-cardiac-fund/) to help save lives.
