Sam Hiadachuk of Prince Albert passed away peacefully at The Herb Bassett Home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the age of 97. He was born on April 16, 1926, in Gronlid, SK. Sam married Lucy on May 9, 1959, in Honeymoon, SK. They were married for 64 years. They settled in Prince Albert, SK, where they raised their three daughters Linda, Debbie and Lori. Sam worked for Canada Post as a postal supervisor retiring after 40 years of service.
Sam was a die-hard sports fan. He loved watching baseball, hockey and curling, where he always commented on the plays that should have been. His favorite teams were The Toronto Blue Jays and The Prince Albert Raiders of whom he was a season ticket holder for many years. He was an avid reader of the Daily Herald. He loved to play on his iPad or hand-held games as well as word finds.
Sam always had a lucky hand at the casino. He won numerous trips, new furniture and other prizes. He enjoyed playing card games with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He loved to travel and took many road trips.
Sam was a lifelong member of The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Prince Albert. He belonged to the men’s club and helped with many of the fundraisers.
Sam will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Linda (Stephen) Tkatchuk, Debbie (Glen) Hiadachuk, Lori (Robert) Parker; his grandchildren, Chelsea and Sierra Parker, Dalisha (Theo) Parker and Luke (Caitlyn) Tkatchuk. His sisters-in-law, Iris Wasylenko, Sophie Karpish and Olga Karpish; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucy Hiadachuk; his parents, Harry and Anna Hiadachuk; Lucy’s parents, Samuel & Johanna Karpish; his brothers, Dan Chura, Peter and Bill Hiadachuk; his sisters, Julia, Anna, Eva, Lena; and brother-in-law, Elmer Bolen; Lucy’s brothers, Peter, Bill, and Bud Karpish; his sisters-in-law, Mary Zbaraschuk, Nancy Karpish, Helen Denysiuk, Olga Parchomuk; brothers-in-law, Tom Denysuik, Steve Wasylenko, Frank Zbaraschuk and Nick Parchomuk.
The Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at River Park Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, March 8, 2024, at The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, in Prince Albert, SK.
