UPDATED WITH SERVICE DETAILS
Ryan Auguste Detillieux was born on June 30, 1985, in Prince Albert, and passed away on June 4, 2026, in Saskatoon at the age of 40 years old.
Ryan grew up on an acreage in the Spruce Home area and attended Spruce Home School. He excelled and lead in all sports, with soccer being his greatest passion.
He later attended Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, where he graduated. His love of soccer continued as a member of the Prince Albert Celtics, helping his team win Provincial Championships. He also played football with the Carlton Crusaders and traveled to Costa Rica with the Carlton Travel Club. Ryan enjoyed golfing, snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, dirt biking, fishing, and spending time at Bells Beach, Christopher Lake.
A dedicated and hardworking young man, Ryan held various cleaning and janitorial jobs while in high school. After graduation, he worked with First General Services, held a variety of construction positions, and drove for transportation, moving, and freight companies.
Ryan enjoyed cooking and cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a kind, soft-spoken gentleman who treated everyone with courtesy, respect, and warmth. He was known for his smile, his heartfelt hugs, and his great sense of humor. Ryan had a special ability to make people laugh and brought joy to those around him with his wit and gentle nature.
Since Ryan’s passing, many have described him as a bright light whose kindness touched countless lives. What is also true is that Ryan struggled with a pervasive and insidious disease that often goes unnamed in obituaries. It is frequently hidden behind phrases such as “sudden and unexpected passing,” when the reality is that there was nothing sudden or unexpected about the disease he faced.
Ryan died as a result of addiction.
Addiction is a disease that too often lives in the shadows, burdened by stigma and misunderstood as a weakness or personal failing. It is neither. Ryan had a loving and supportive family. He had every reason to live. He had resources and access to treatment. Yet addiction still won.
Addiction does not discriminate. No one is immune.
This disease does not define Ryan’s life, but it did end it. It stole his spark and left those who loved him heartbroken. In sharing this truth, we hope not to turn away from the reality of this epidemic or from the countless families who find themselves facing the same devastating loss.
Ryan is survived by his son, Haylow Detillieux; his parents, Gus and Karen Detillieux; his brother, Travis Detillieux (Richelle) and their children, Zander and Harper; and numerous Uncles, Aunties and Cousins; and his special lady friend, Velma (aka Abba) Badger.
Ryan was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Andre and Martha Detillieux, and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lenora Vickers; his Auntie, Linda Detillieux (nee Kustaski) and his Auntie, Linda Detillieux (nee Zadvorny).
A Celebration of Ryan’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Plaza 88, 888 Central Ave, Prince Albert, SK, (please use the 1st Avenue entrance).
