Russel Ingar Johansen

Russel Ingar Johansen was born October 20, 1920 and passed away at Victoria Hospital on September 13, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born at the family farm in Northern Light the 2nd of 10 children born to Peter and Jensine Johansen. When he started school he could not speak English, only Norwegian like most of the kids in the community. In 1944 when Dad was 24 years old his dad closed the store he operated on the farm and moved the family to Matsqui, BC, but Russel stayed and raised livestock and grew grain. He remained on the farm for his entire life. In 1949 he married Lorraine LaRoche and they had 3 children. Dad was fun-loving and always smiling with a twinkle in his eyes. His favorite sports were hockey, curling and baseball. He loved to play cards and listen to country and western music. When dad was younger he curled in all the district bonspiels. Dad was heavily involved with Bethania Lutheran Church, serving as the head of the cemetery committee for 27 years. He was predeceased by his parent, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He leaves to mourn his wife of 63 years, Lorraine; his children, Beverly, Bryan (Judy Doyle) and Becky (Robert) Kosec; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives. Memorial Service and Interment will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Bethania Lutheran Church, Northern Light at 2:00. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Bethania Lutheran Church Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME (934-4888).
