Russel Lloyd Evenson
(July 13, 1924 – October 6, 2011)
Russel Lloyd Evenson was born July 13, 1924, the fifth of eight children born to Robert and Louise Evenson. He passed away on October 6, 2011 in Melfort Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
In his early years, Russel worked at logging, at a pulp mill at Port Alberni, and farmed with his brother John. Lastly he was a nursing attendant at Parkland Place for 27 years. Russel loved gardening and growing flowers; he was generous in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He also loved the outdoor life, enjoying many fishing trips and hunting trips with friends. Russel and Ida also owned a summer cottage at Manitou Beach, where they spent many happy summer holidays. For a number of years they also enjoyed travelling to Mesa, Arizona to spend the winter months.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bert, George, and John and brother-in-law Ken Anderson; his parents-in-law Anund and Lydia Boe, and brothers-in-law Mike Luypaert and Lloyd Boe. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ida; brother Walter and wife Ella, sister Grace, brother Fred and wife Argyle, youngest sister Irene Tegstrom; brother-in-law Ken Boe and wife Shirley, sisters-in-law Edith Evenson, Irma Evenson-Forsyth and Helen Luypaert; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Russel will be remembered as a loving husband, a fun-loving uncle and a wonderful friend to everyone who knew him.
A Memorial Service for Russel was held from Fedusiak Funeral Chapel on October 12, 2011 with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Dennis Evenson was the urnbearer, Allan Evenson delivered the eulogy and Sherry Schamber attended the memorial book. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
