Ruby Caroline Meyer, late of Saskatoon and formerly of Prince Albert and Birch Hills, passed away peacefully in Saskatoon City Hospital Monday, January 9, 2012 at the age of 99 years. She is survived by her son Allan (Sharon) Meyer of Prince Albert; daughter Marilyn (Garry) Elviss of Saskatoon; grandchildren Kevin (Lorelle) Meyer, Trent (Josee) Meyer, Douglas Brett (Miki) Meyer, Paula (Chad) Anderson, Lonnie (Brad) Griffin, Kerri (Riley Dziadyk) Elviss; great-grandchildren Matthew and Graham Meyer, Dagg Meyer, Katie and Christopher Meyer, Braelyn and Olivia Anderson, Bryce and Sydney Griffin and Liam Dziadyk; as well as nieces and nephews. Ruby was born near Hankinson, North Dakota on June 27, 1912 to Peter and Rachel (Halvorson) Hetland. Ruby was close with her large family and had fond memories of growing up on the farm. She moved with her family to Loreburn, SK in 1930. In 1933 she drove a wagon in the Hetland Wagon Train to Birch Hills, The Promised Land. Ruby married Ancor Meyer from Loreburn in 1936 and they settled on the farm near Hagen, Sask, later moving into Birch Hills. In 1969 she made her home in Prince Albert where she worked at the Victoria Hospital. In 2005 she made her home at Grace and Gloria Care Home in Saskatoon where she received loving care. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Ancor (1960); her parents Peter and Rachel (nee Halvorson) Hetland; brothers Melvin (Myrtle), Palmer and Roy Hetland; sisters Clara (Halsten) Stamnes, Linda (Paul) Meyer, Lenora (Olaf) Stamnes, Mabel (Mike) Fischer, Hilda (Alfred) Bohn, Luella (Harry)Taylor, Alice Brager and Thelma Hetland.
A Funeral Service will be held at MacKenzie Chapel, 130 – 9th St. East, Prince Albert SK on Saturday January 14, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Haugen officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens, Prince Albert. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of your choice.
