Ruben Otto Peterson
June 1, 1925 – May 22, 2016
Ruben Otto Peterson, was born on June 1, 1925 on his parent’s homestead north of Weldon, SK. He passed away at the age of 90 years on May 22, 2016 at the Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert. Ruben completed grade eight at Roosevelt Country School then spent the next few years helping his father on the farm and spend some time working alongside an electrician. Ruben didn’t have to travel far in order to find his loving wife, a fellow classmate and neighbor, Astrid Nyland. They were married on June 28, 1947. Ruben was active in community affairs including being a Director for the Weldon Coop, Credit Union and Weldon Sports Club. He also spent time as a Councillor for the Kinistino RM. Ruben was always involved in sports as both a hockey and ball player, then later as a hockey and ball coach. Ruben, an ardent hunter, fisherman and curler, was often accompanied by Astrid for these outings. They also loved spending time playing cards together with friends. In his later years, Ruben was well known for his passion and expertise of refinishing antique furniture. Ruben will be lovingly remembered by: his children: Verna (Don Roy) Scott, Shirley (Don) Gabrielson, Terry (Myrna) Peterson, Sandra (George) Storms and Gayle (Tom) Boyle; his brother: Ernest (Linda) Peterson; his 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruben was predeceased by: his wife: Astrid; an infant daughter: Ruth; his parents: Karl and Annie Peterson; and his sisters: Ethel Befus and Helen Mikelson. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Rose Hill Cemetery, Weldon, SK. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Ruben may be made to Mont St. Joseph Care Home, Rose Hill Cemetery or Weldon Care Home. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
