Rosie Cook (née McLeod) was born on March 5, 1949, on a portage on the way to the trapline near Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan. From her very first moments, she was surrounded by the beauty and spirit of the North that she would always call home. Rosie was the eldest daughter in a large and loving family of fifteen children, a role that shaped her into the caring, nurturing woman she would become.
On December 26, 1968, Rosie married the love of her life, Harry Cook, in a joyful double wedding ceremony alongside Charlie and Mariam Cook. Together, Rosie and Harry built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They began their married life in Regina, where they welcomed two beautiful daughters and spent thirteen happy years. Later, they moved north to Brabant Lake and then La Ronge, where their family grew with the addition of another daughter.
Rosie was an extraordinary wife, mother, sister, and aunt whose kindness touched countless lives. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of good cooking. Rosie devoted her life to caring for others. She lovingly babysat many of her nieces and nephews over the years, becoming a second mother to many children who were fortunate to be in her care.
Though she travelled to many places around the world—including Jerusalem, Egypt, and England—Rosie’s favorite place was always home, surrounded by family, the land, and the people she loved most.
Rosie’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harry Cook; her daughter, Janet Daigneault; son-in-law, Valmore Daigneault; and her treasured grandchildren, Daniel and Dayna Daigneault.
Her love and light will continue to shine through those who knew her best, reminding us all of the beauty of a life well lived, filled with love, laughter, and selfless care for others.
