Rose Ruznisky
1918 ~ 2021
Surrounded by the family she loved so much, our dear mother, Rose Ruznisky, passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 103 years.
The sixth child born to Carl and Sofia (Novosiadly) Hollick, Mom, at two months old, lost her mother to the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. A few years later, her father married Pauline Stankowski, and the family grew by nine. In 1928, the family moved to a farm south of Prince Albert. After attending Royal School, she worked in the city at various jobs, while continuing to help with the younger siblings on the farm. In 1943, she married Steven Ruznisky, whose Air Force service required that they live away from P. A. for two years. Mom enjoyed being an officer’s wife. Upon returning, they raised and educated their three daughters.
Mom was very skilled in many areas. Being an excellent seamstress, she sewed most of our clothes and often made matching outfits for our dolls. She was also a master of crocheting and knitting. Her cooking and baking skills were legendary among family and friends. She will be remembered for her large, beautiful yard and home, which were toured and appreciated by many.
Mom managed and enjoyed family life, travel, politics, and working in retail sales. She volunteered countless hours to help and sustain the establishment of St. Mark’s Church. She was especially fond of softball, at which she excelled in her youth, and which led to her becoming the coordinator of the P. A. Girls’ Softball League. She was also the president of the Home and School Association when her daughters were in elementary school.
Mom was the best combination of strength, humility, and kindness. Her warmth and generosity meant her home was always open to relatives, friends, and many rescue cats. Her devotion and commitment to family was unwavering. As the last surviving sibling, she became the much-loved matriarch of our large, ever-growing family.
Her amazing intellect and sense of humour never diminished.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Sandra (Barry Neschuk), Sonja (Duncan McArthur, daughter, Heather, son, Cody), Jacqueline; her friend and sister-in-law, Ann Ruznisky; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; her “little chum” Tricia (Bell) Olaski.
She was predeceased by her parents, five sisters, nine brothers; the father of her children, Steve; her “other Mom,” Maria Hollick; and many other relatives and friends.
We would like to thank all who were involved with Mom’s care, particularly in the last two years, especially Dr. Stan Oleksinski, P.A. Home Care, Mont St. Joseph, and Darlene Rawlinson.
Thank you also to Colette Harnett and her staff at River Park Funeral Home for their compassion and professionalism.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prince Albert SPCA would be appreciated. Interment for Rose took place in the Garden of Christus at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
