It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rose Moldowan announces her passing on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the age of 99. Rose was born at Samburg, SK, on July 18, 1914 to Metro and Margaret Andrusek. She grew up with three sisters and four brothers and attended David School. Rose married Fred Moldowan on November 6, 1932, and settled on a homestead at Kalyna, SK. They were blessed with five daughters, Mary, Evelyn, Barbara, Jeanette and Shirley, and two sons, Robert and Alfred, both of whom died in infancy. Rose had many moves, going from the farm to Red Wing Terrace, then to Riverpark Apartments, then to North Cote Manor, and finally to Wellspring Care Home/MacWilliams Personal Care Home Limited. After her family grew up, Rose worked at the Victoria Hospital until her retirement in 1979. She was well known for her great cooking, gardening, and various crafts, as well as for her contributions to her community and church. Always a willing worker, she served on the executive of various boards. Like everyone, she had her shortcomings but her generosity and great love for her family made up for them. Her feisty nature, keen sense of humour, and determination not to depend on others, kept her going right until her last night. She died peacefully in her sleep at MacWilliams Personal Care Home Limited where she had resided for the last three years. Rose is survived by four daughters, Mary (Bill) Semchuk, Evelyn (Bill) Ludyk, Barbara Moldowan, and Jeanette (Jack) Stevenson; one son-in-law, Jerry (Shirley) Zurakowski; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Andrusek, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred (1993); her daughter, Shirley Zurakowski (2012); two infant sons, Robert and Alfred; three sons-in-law, Bill Semchuk, Bill Ludyk, and Jack Stevenson; her parents, Metro and Margaret; her 3 sisters and 3 brothers. and all her in-laws. In lieu of other tributes, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 684 – 3rd Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK with Father Michael Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
