It is with great sadness, the family of Ronald Edwin Selander announce his passing on July 29, 2024 at the age of 84 after a courageous battle of a few cancers.
Ronald was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on October 1st, 1939 to Edwin and Lena Selander. He was raised on his family owned and operated farm in Tweedsmuir,
SK. Ronald was the eldest of the family. Ronald attended Tweedsmuir School in a class of twelve. When Ron moved to a larger school in Christopher Lake, Ron and his brother, Arn thought it was so big that they felt overwhelmed and started crying and took off for home. After some adjusting, he grew to be comfortable in the school environment. Some of his female friends in school used to call him Ronnie Baby with a smile a mile wide.
Ron spent many years as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Tru-Mix Concrete, Abramyk Construction, Selander’s Construction and Waskesiu Park. He was a hard worker and enjoyed all aspects of his job. Even after he retired, different companies were always approaching him to work for them. After that, he joked he was only going into businesses that were not hiring.
Ron met his wife, Gail in 1982 through a mutual friend. She thought they would make a good couple, so she introduced the two of them. Through previous marriages, both Ron and Gail each had a son and daughter. They moved into Gail’s house in Prince Albert for 20 years. It took Ron that many years to convince Gail to move to his house in Redwing Terrace which is where they have lived ever since. Ron loved retirement and once his wife, Gail retired, they started travelling more often. They spent time driving through most of the provinces and territories in Canada. Then by air, they visited Hawaii, Mexico, Cuba, Arizona, and Alaska. They spent many summers camping together and loved to spend time fishing on the lake. They also spent forty years enjoying what they referred to as “The Ranch” in Tweedsmuir, SK – it was their little nest for camping and spending time together.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Gail of 42 years and his dog Trixy who was by his side at all times.
First Family (with Anne Pickering – married from 1963-1973): His son, Clifford (Darcy), his granddaughter, Lindsay (Brenden) and his great grandchildren, Lacey, Carson and Sawyer; his grandson, Cory (Taylor); his daughter, Darlene; and his sister, Audrey (Rod).
Second Family: His stepson, Kelly (Kim), his grandchildren Tyson (Sophie) and Reece; his stepdaughter, Kathy (Roger), and his grandchildren, Dillon, Meagan (Sheldon) and Brayden (Hillary).
He will also be remembered by numerous sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will greatly be missed.
He is predeceased by his mother, Lena; his father, Edwin; his two brothers, Arn and Lorne; his son-in-law, Kenneth Thomas; and his Aunt Margaret.
A special thanks to Doctor Hammond and staff at Victoria Hospital that went above and beyond for Ron after his passing.
