It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.
First and foremost, Ron was always most proud of his daughters Chana and Nicolette and very supportive of their interests. He coached and cheered them on in soccer and basketball as they grew up, and remained their biggest fan as adults taking a keen interest in their University and travel adventures. Ron was a dedicated father, brother and friend who could be counted on to always be there-to lend an ear or a helping hand.
Ron was born and lived his life in Prince Albert. After completing high school and undergraduate at the U of S he had a long and distinguished career with the City of Prince Albert first in Payroll and then as a Purchasing Agent.
Ron was smart, quick witted, a superb organizer and known to many in the Prince Albert community. He lived a life driven by kindness, connection, and service, freely giving countless hours of his time particularly to local AA groups for 28 years.
Ron had a passion for sports as a competitor and as a volunteer and organizer. He is in the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the provincial champion 1971 St Mary Marauders football team. In golf he was a member of the 1973 Junior Team that represented Saskatchewan. Ron also won quite a number of golf tournaments in North Central Saskatchewan including the Lobstick twice and the Northern twice. In curling he was with teams that competed at a high level on both the local and provincial stage. He was a president of the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club and was actively involved in the organization of major events both in golf and curling. In soccer, he began coaching girls soccer as his daughters grew and that culminated in coaching a Prince Albert Celtic girls team that went to a national championship.
Ron seemingly knew and forged friendships with almost everyone. He was known for being a great storyteller and could share a laugh with people of all ages and walks of life. Ron had a memory like a steel trap – a walking encyclopedia! Ron had an uncanny ability to recall every detail of events (particularly sports) that occurred years and even decades earlier. He could tell you not only what the scores were, but what the weather was like that day and any other details you could possibly imagine. He will be very deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his two beautiful daughters Chana and Nicolette (Rob Devine), and grandson Ray Anthony Ronald Devine and his former wife and friend Cheryle Harris.
In addition, Ron leaves to mourn, his three brothers Mike Harris (Mary), Frank Harris, Jamie Harris (Amy) and his sister Chris Harris. Ron’s loving nephews and nieces are Kyla Radu (Chris), Devin Harris (Robin), Jessica Harris (Tyler), Chrissy Harris (Curtis) and Ian Harris. He also leaves behind his BC family, his AA family and countless friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Eileen Harris and his sister-in-law Donna Harris.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Saskatchewan Division, https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/canadian-mental-health-association-saskatchewan-division-inc/ in Ron’s memory.
