It is with sadness that we announce the death of Ronald James Barlow. Ron passed away on May 31, 2019, at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert after a short battle with cancer.
Ron is predeceased by his wife Shirley Barlow (Hamilton/Miller), his parents Fred and Margaret Barlow and his brother Gordie Barlow. He is survived by his children Gwen Miller (Stuart McDowell) and Dean Miller (Rhonda); his grandchildren Cole Miller and Leanne McDowell; his siblings Bill Barlow (Jenny), Bob Barlow (Shirley), Mary Barlow (Andrew) and Terry Barlow (Kenah) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was the first child born to Fred and Margaret Barlow on April 21, 1941, and grew up on a farm at Tweedsmuir, SK with his siblings. He would often tell stories of how he helped his father on the farm and how he ran home after each school day from the one-room school at Tweedsmuir which was located two miles away.
In 1974, Ron married a young widow, Shirley, and informally adopted her two young children who were then 13 and 5 years old. Family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome at their farm in Tweedsmuir. As the circle of friends and family grew, countless gatherings were either held or attended.
Ron was a man of many talents including welding, farming, trucking, mechanics and being a part-time conservation officer at Anglin Lake for many years. Apart from his family, his proudest achievement was the building of a number of custom semi trucks and trailers from the ground up. He was a great lover of nature and was an avid fisherman and horseman as well as an occasional hunter. Throughout his life, there were many animals in his care including dogs, cats, horses, and cattle.
A graveside service and interment along with his beloved Shirley will take place on June 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the South Hill Cemetery in Prince Albert.
Friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate Ron’s life with his family at a barbeque on June 22, 2019 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The event will take place at the farm where Ron grew up, in Tweedsmuir, now owned by his sister Mary. We ask those attending to please bring a chair as well as a salad or dessert to share with others.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made in memory of Ron to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 11 Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 26 – 1738 Quebec Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel (306) 922-4729.
