1953 – 2017
Rodney Ewald Werner passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the age of 63 at the La Ronge Health Center. He was born on Friday, June 19, 1953 in Edmonton, AB, the second son of Edith and Ewald Werner. He married his wife, Bonnie, on July 12, 1980. Rod always had an interest in rocks and minerals and graduated from NAIT in 1974 with a diploma in Mining Technology. In the 1970’s he worked in and around La Ronge, and mining in BC & Alberta before returning to Edmonton to work at his father’s company, Humphrey Aluminum Windows. In the early 1980’s he moved to La Ronge and followed his dream of building an isolated cabin on a lake in Northern Saskatchewan. While building a home, and raising his two boys with Bonnie in La Ronge, Rod worked many places around town. However his passion for spending time with his family at the cabin and enjoying life in Northern Saskatchewan with friends remained the same. For the last 10 years Rod has worked at Cameco’s McArthur River Mine, which has enriched his life with a sense of community and engagement. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his two sons, Robert Jay and Nicholas Rodney, his brother Warren Werner (Susan), his nephew Paul and niece Kimberly. He is predeceased by his parents, Edith and Ewald Werner. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Kikinahk Friendship Centre, 320 Boardman St., La Ronge, SK.
