1948 – 2020
Rodney Arthur Ferster was born on the family farm in Meadow Grove east of Leask, SK on January 11, 1948. In his teens, he moved to Alberta & B.C. to work. When he moved back to SK, he worked many years for the Dept of Highways and later for the Municipality of Leask. During that time, he also farmed east of Leask and had a few cows, pigs, and chickens. He loved to fish and hunt and was the first of the family to learn the art of making many kinds of sausage, headcheese, movitza – mostly from Uncle Kuhn who was a willing teacher, the family all enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Rodney later moved to Shellbrook when his health started being a concern. He passed away on September 8, 2020, following a short stay in the Victoria Union Hospital.
Rodney was blessed with 3 boys, Dallas Inglehart and his son Julian Inglehart; Nathan Ferster; and Nigel Ferster. He was also survived by his siblings, Shirley (Mike) Youngblood; Emilie (Andrew) Neveu; Theone (Rodney) Barber; Terry Valmont; Dennis (Fran) Ferster; Janice (Warren) Muller; his special cousin Rita (Frances) Kunz; his sister-in-law, Gloria Ferster; his aunt, Hildegarde Butz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rodney was predeceased by his parents, Ted & Helene (Butz) Ferster; his brother, Larry; his first wife, Beverley; and his brother-in-law, Fred Valmont.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral but a private graveside memorial at a later date.
