Robert Swanton

SWANTON- Robert George, 83, late of Prince Albert, formerly of Red Deer Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30th 2011.
He was born on the family farm at Red Deer Hill on October 6th, 1928. He attended school at Red Deer Hill and helped on the farm until 1950 when he took over the family farm due to the death of his father. In 1953 he married Lillian Vezina. Together they farmed until 1966. They then moved to Prince Albert where Robert held several short term jobs then continued for the next 24 years as a department manager at the Marlboro Inn.
Robert always loved nature, the outdoors, and was a talented woodworker. He left as memories for his family many beautiful woodwork items that he created. He enjoyed playing the violin and he and Lillian spent many years playing old time music, attending old time fiddle contests and dances throughout the prairie provinces.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Lillian; their daughter Margaret (Rick Humm) of Prince Albert; three grandchildren, Kerri Elchuk of Vancouver BC, Shannon Elchuk of Vermilion AB, and Dean Elchuk of Choiceland SK; his sister Kathleen Gray of Battleford; his sister-in-law Ann Swanton (Wilfred); his niece Sheila Gray of Toronto ON; his nephew Kevin Gray of Victoria BC and cousins John and Max Davies. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Lavina; his brother Wilfred; and his brother in law Bill Gray. Robert will be remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
At his request there will be no formal funeral, but a private family memorial in the near future.
