August 30, 1936 – January 14, 2012
Bob was born in Regina, SK on August 30, 1936 and passed away after a short illness on January 14, 2012 at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, SK. He grew up on the farm, and at various locations in Saskatchewan. Bob entered the army at a young age on May 7, 1954 and served in his capacity as cook until his honourable discharge from the service on May 19, 1977 with the rank of Corporal. He gained his Veteran status for service in Cyprus and received the United Nations Medal (Cyprus) and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. He then went on to work for the corrections service in Prince Albert, SK until his retirement. He developed an affinity for the city and chose to remain there after his retirement, developing a number of friends and acquaintances. As a younger man, Bob enjoyed playing hockey and boxing and always encouraged his kids in sports. As he grew older he became more interested in sports as a spectator and was always a Maple Leafs fan. Bob enjoyed being at his mother's cottage at Jackfish Lake, spending his leaves with family and friends, and getting some fishing in. He enjoyed his off-season trips with his beloved dogs to British Columbia and points in the United States. He was always a thumbs-up individual even after strokes robbed him of much of his independence. Bob is survived by his children: Ralph (Jamie) Brodt of Spruce Grove, AB, Irene Brodt (Kevin Maher) of Saskatoon, SK and Tammy (Des) Boisvert of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren: Allison (Clint) Tweten, Carrie Cygielnik, Doran Weber, Kevin Crowston and Kaitlin and Hailie Boisvert; great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn, Penelope and Thomas Tweten and Aiyana Larsen; numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Brodt and Irene Langan; his step-father Larry Langan; his brother Don Brodt; his sister-in-law Kay Brodt and his nephew Wayne Brodt. The family wishes to thank the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert for Bob's compassionate and loving care and their responsiveness to the family.
