Robert Arthur “Art” Gessner was born October 6, 1932 in Strasbourg, SK. He spent his early years on the family farm and it was there that he developed his love of the great outdoors. He was a hard worker and tried various jobs before joining Simpson Sears in Moose Jaw, where his business sense was quickly recognized and he was promoted several times. His career took his family to Ontario, first to Guelph and then to Windsor. As he rose further up the corporate ladder he was promoted to Western Region Merchandise Manager in Edmonton and then to Store Manager in Prince Albert. Art will be missed but never forgotten by his wife Ruby; children, Debbie (Frank) Covelli, John (Janelle) Gessner, Carol (Mike) Mueller, Linda (Pat) Kavanagh; his 11 grandchildren, Trevor (Rhoslynne), Marc, Janine (Peter), Bryce (Linda), Brent, Rebecca (Chris), Kristen (Dave), Ryan (Summer), Chris (Joni), Stephanie (Julian) and Jason and his 14 great grandchildren, Thea, Rhys, Cora, Josephine, Sophie, Hudson, Jackson, Aedyn, Rose, Ronan, Caitlin, Mikayla, Riker, and Nova. He was predeceased by his son Russell; his parents John and Kay Gessner; brother Allen Gessner; Ruby’s family, Ole and Cora Adams, Arlene and Jack Aupperle and Arne Adams. Art was lucky enough to take early retirement and was able to pursue his many interests. He loved to travel but his favorite trips were to see family members,
as he was a family man through and through. He was a great storyteller and that made him a welcome visitor especially to his grandchildren who worshipped him. His love of hunting and fishing is legendary and sharing those outdoor adventures with his family and friends brought him much happiness. He was a true athlete and enjoyed watching sports as much as he did playing them. Hockey, baseball, golf and curling kept him busy and engaged, but spending time with Ruby were the most precious moments of all. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas, Director Spiritual Care, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officiating., Interment will be held at a later date.
