Robert Ethier
1930 ~ 2022
Robert “Bob” Ethier of Prince Albert, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 91 years. He was born on October 3, 1930.
Robert is survived by his sisters, Helen Doderai (Bronald Siwak) and Simone LeBlanc; his brothers, Joseph (Marie) Ethier, Lionel Ethier and Michel (Audrey) Ethier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob had a very interesting and full life. He was raised on the farm in St. Louis, the third of nine children to Emilien and Ena Ethier. Having lost their mother at a young age, the Ethier children took on more challenging roles. Bob ensured that Santa Claus had a gift under the Christmas tree for everyone. This generosity never ceased, as Bob took a keen interest in the education and career goals of the next generations.
Bob spent the first half of his life as a bachelor, working up north for the airline company. He then became an electrician, starting up his own business “Ethier Electric”. He met Fern Chicoine and after marrying in 1974, they settled on the farm just outside of Prince Albert, where they built a house and began a farm life together. Bob & Fern enjoyed many winters in the Grand Cayman Islands and Mesa, Arizona and summers at the cabin in Weyakwin. These were still enjoyed after retirement in 1995. Bob & Fern loved parties and were great hosts to many of us. Together they enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and playing bridge, kaiser and cribbage. They were both very invested in their faith and their parish. Bob served as member of the K of C for several years.
After Fern died in 2017, Bob still enjoyed country life and insisted on staying at the acreage right up until Nov 29th of this past year. His health declined and he agreed to convalesce at Cornerstone Care Home in Wakaw, SK. Bob made the most of his short time there, developing new friendships, enjoying good food and sharing more stories… oh the stories! Bob was extremely fluent in speech!
Bob left us with many great lessons for a successful life. He was a savvy businessman, financial manager and investor right up until the end, yet abounding with humility, simplicity and honesty. He held everybody accountable, no matter the age or circumstance. Fair was fair, right was right and nothing else!
We will miss his funny and unique little facial expressions and sayings. Toodaloo Bobbino! You’re going home… Bonsoir, bonsoir mon ami ♪♫
