Robert (Bob) Currie
May 9, 1948 – July 16, 2023
Bob passed away peacefully at the Evergreen Senior Home with his wife, Susan by his side.
Bob is also survived by his daughter, Holli Currie (Darcy Radu), son Jason Currie and his brother Bill Currie. He is also survived by 4 stepchildren, Trish Johansen, Cindy Devlin (Brad Engbrecht), Darren Johansen and Chris Johansen as well as 9 step grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by his father Harold and his mother Barbara and his step-father Dennis Newman.
Bob packed a lot into his 75 years and called many different places home, saying he never lived anywhere he didn’t like.
He graduated from Centennial High School in Coquitlam as a football star. With so many offers from colleges with a football scholarship, Bob chose Hawaii where he played with the Rainbow Warriors. He was later signed as a defensive tackle with the BC Lions.
Bob’s next chapter was in corrections and working in the “Outward Bound Program”. This was work he so enjoyed, and his experiences were often the topic of conversation. He then continued to Port Alberni as a probation officer and just to throw in a bit of variety while there, he tried his hand at musical theatre with performances in Lil Abner and Camelot.
He next moved to Powell River and then on to the Queen Charlotte Islands, followed by Campbell River before making his way to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan all in the forest industry ending with Weyerhaeuser as Human Resources Manager.
After retirement Bob made his way back to Campbell River where his journey would end. Bob was such a kind, genuine “gentle giant” as so many referred to him, who lived his life to the fullest and will be so greatly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Evergreen Senior Home in Campbell River.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff for your kind, compassionate care of Bob in his short time at Evergreen Senior Home. We are ever grateful.
A Celebration of Life is set for September 9th at 1pm at the Eagles Hall in Campbell River, BC.
