Robert “Bob” O’Connell

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) O’Connell announce his passing on November 14, 2020 at the age of 72 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bob was born in Prince Albert, SK on February 8, 1948 to Albert and Alice (Anderson) O’Connell. While growing up in Prince Albert, Bob attended St. Paul elementary school and St. Mary High School. Upon graduation Bob received the award for “Most Gentlemanly Student.” After graduation, Bob attended the University of Saskatchewan for a short time and then went on to work for Domtar and then in the oil fields of Alberta and Nunavut. In 1981, Bob went to Flin Flon, MB to work in the smelter and resided there until his passing. Bob was a talented artist and received several awards for his paintings. Most recently one of Bob’s paintings was recognized and prestigiously placed on a banner on main street in Flin Flon, MB.
Bob is survived by his sisters Shirley (Virgil) Larsen from Billings Montana, Dianne (Billy) Dietz from Plevna Montana, and Debbie (Jim) Taylor from Prince Albert, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob is pre-deceased by his parents, Albert and Alice, his brother Jim, his sister Patricia and brother-in-law Eldon, brother-in-law Gerald (Butch), and his nephew Edward.
A memorial service will be held for Bob at a later date. In lieu of tributes, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice
