Mrs. Rita Rosalia Denniel, age 84 years of Prince Albert, SK passed away at the Victoria Hospital in the morning of October 16, 2014. Mrs. Denniel is survived by her son and two daughters: Rick (Heather) Smith of Tweedsmuir, SK, Elaine (Boyd) Thorsteinson of Vanscoy, SK and Lori (Kenton) Fusick of Prince Albert, SK; her grandson and two granddaughters: Arliss (Cassie) Thorsteinson of Qu’Appelle, SK , Tina (Stephen Wood) Thorsteinson of Saskatoon, Sk and Brandi Byers of Prince Albert, SK ; her great-grandson and two great-granddaughters: Vance, Austyn and Hailee; her brother Alphonse (Louise) Loehndorf of Cudworth, SK and her brother-in-law Frank Vos of Saskatoon, SK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Denniel was predeceased by her husband George Joseph Denniel, her brother Alois Loehndorf, her sister-in-law Elaine Loehndorf, her sister Helen Vos, her first husband George Smith, and her parents John Leonard & Erna (Thiel) Loehndorf.
Rita was born on December 30, 1929 near Cactus Lake, SK. Over the years she and her family moved around Saskatchewan from Goodsoil to Timberlost (near Big River), before they finally settled in Leoville, SK. Throughout her life, Rita worked at various positions including working at her uncle’s Dairy Farm in Golden, BC, a Hotel chef, also in Golden, a lumber camp cook in British Columbia, a car wash assistant in Saskatoon, SK and a Cry-Vac assembler for Intercontinental Meat Packers in Saskatoon, SK, as well as various other occupations. In 1969, Rita became the owner/operator of a successful boarding house in Prince Albert, SK. During her time in Prince Albert, she met and later married George Denniel.
In 1976, Rita and George acquired property at Tweedsmuir, SK and continued to enjoy the lake country for many years. Rita was passionate about cooking and could often be found reading one of her many cookbooks to “gain inspiration”, as she would say. She was fond of crocheting and has created many beautiful creations for gifts and charity over the years. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many holidays with her sister, Helen, exploring the North.
Rita loved music, she even taught herself to play the guitar when she was young and possessed a beautiful singing voice with which she spent many an evening entertaining friends and family. She combined work with her hobbies in gardening and creating a miniature jungle in her house with potted plants and flowers. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 – 1:30 pm, MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St. E, Prince Albert, SK.
