Richard Till

Richard (Dick) Till was born in Punnichy, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1941, to Joseph and Rose Till. He grew up and was educated in Holdfast, Saskatchewan under the loving guidance of the teaching Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan and subsequently his Master of Social Work from the University of Ottawa.
He began his 37-year career with the Saskatchewan Public Service in 1962. In the first two years, assisting citizens with financial and adoption services. He then embarked upon a 31-year career with Saskatchewan Correctional Services. During those years, he assumed increasing responsibilities. From Director of the Prince Albert Correctional Centre, to Institutional Planner, to planning and implementation of two new Centres, to Director of Corrections, until his retirement in 1997.
In 1963 he met and married the love of his life, Sophia Capusten. In 1964, they welcomed their only child, Bernadette Till into the family. They spent many happy summer holidays at their farm property, growing large gardens and improving the yard. After his retirement, the family spent 20 happy winters in Arizona enjoying the friendships and activities of Park life. They were blessed with 54 years of married life until Sophia’s passing in 2018.
Richard was very active in sports throughout his life, especially golf and curling. He was also active in the organizational components in the community. He was an early member of the Board of Directors for the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club, President of the Tartan Curling Club, Chairman of the Regina 1989 Brier Bid Committee and Vice President of the Regina 1992 Brier.
Richard was a dedicated and faithful member of his Catholic faith. He often spoke about how his faith helped him through difficult challenges in his personal and professional life. He was a 60 plus year member of the Knights of Columbus, including time as a member of the Honour Guard.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Sophia, his parents Rose and Joseph Till, his sister Rose Marie Frohlick, sister in law Pauline Dembiski , brothers in law John Frohlick, Tony, John, Steven Capusten.
Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Bernadette Till, Nieces Deborah(Gerry) Folk, Shirley Maerz, Connie Frohlick, Gayle(Don) Maier, Marlene Powling,Dr. Bernice Capusten, Donna Copan, and nephews Rodney(Sherry) Frohlick, Steven Capusten.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated June 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, located at 1401 4 Ave W, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, located Highway 2 South, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
