Richard Bates
1956 – 2020

With great sadness we announce the passing of Richard Bates of La Ronge, SK. He passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 64 years. Richard was born on Saturday, July 21, 1956, in Lindsay, ON.

As a young boy he moved west with his family where they finally made the Assiniboia area home. He graduated from Assiniboia Composite High School. After graduation he attended SIAST to become a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic. Richard lived and worked in the Assiniboia area, with his wife and daughter, until they moved to La Ronge in 1992. In La Ronge, he worked for Saskatchewan Government in Parks and Fire Management until he retired in 2019. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, time with his grandson, and spending part of the winter in Arizona.

Richard will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Brenda; his daughter, Carlene (Brent) Lee; his grandchildren, Mitchell and Lexy; his mother, Florence Bates; his siblings, Jim (Corinne) Bates, Lynda (Mike) Zimmer, Donald Bates; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Wally Bates; and his sister, Margaret Bates. In his memory, friends may make a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca. Private interment of ashes will be held at a later date.

His passing will create a great absence to his family and friends to whom he gave his time, his knowledge, his strength and his love.
