1935-2017
We are sad to announce the passing of Raymond Harold Fisher on March 27 at the age of 82. He was born in the Shellbrook Nursing Home on January 15, 1935 to George & Jessie Fisher. He was the 11th child of a family of 14 – 4 sisters & 9 brothers. He was raised on the farm in Brightholme, they moved & farmed in the Briarlea district. Ray, his brothers & their dad were the first to lease the land their dad helped clear on the Little Red Reserve. Eventually Ray & Mona along with their 2 sons Blain & Grant took over the land on the reserve as well as purchasing land in the Deer Ridge district. Ray & Mona built their home in Deer Ridge in 1981, this is where the family farm is today. Ray actively helped on the farm until his sudden passing. Ray was a hard worker but also enjoyed camping, travelling and visiting with family and friends. They have spent many winters golfing and enjoying the sunshine in Mesa, AZ. In his earlier years he was an avid curler. In his later years Ray spent many hours watching the Riders, the Jays and the Leafs. He will be greatly missed by so many.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Mona (Curran) of 57 years; their sons Blain (Charlene) and their daughters Alysha (Robin Shilington), Amanda (Rod Herzog), April & Courtney; Grant (Twila) and their daughters Chenele, Breanne & Shelby. As well as their two very special great grandchildren Bryden & Kaysten Shillington.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Friday, April 7th @ 3:00 p.m at P.A. Exhibition Centre
