Rachel Rita (Gobeil) Rompré lived her life modeled on her favourite prayer, the Magnificat: “My soul magnifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour” (Luke 1: 46). Everything she did was meant to reflect God’s love to others. Rachel was born and raised near Henribourg, SK. She was fond of telling us how she was born premature, weighing only two pounds and kept warm in a dresser drawer near the wood stove! At 15, Rachel left home to join the Sisters of the Child Jesus. In her twenty years with the Order, she worked as a cook and taught home economics and catechism. She was always passionate about education and saw it as a way to bring others closer to God. In 1967, she married Gerard, a farmer in the Domrémy area. She soon adapted to life on the farm and was always active in the community helping with the Altar servers, Brownies and Guides, and the Catholic Women’s League. She was most proud to serve as the diocesan president of the CWL in the eighties. Rachel is mourned by her daughters, Gertrude and Béatrice; grandchildren, Adrianna, Matthew, Celina, and Chantelle; her brother, Leon, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Welcoming her to heaven will be her beloved husband, Gerard; her parents, Alma and Trefflé; and her siblings, Urbain, Antoinette, Alice, Muriel, Gerald, Yvonne, Jeannette, August and Marie. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m at Ste. Jeanne d’Arc Catholic Church in Domrémy, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Phong Tran. Interment will be held at Domrémy Cemetery In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Long Lake Valley Hospital Auxiliary, PO Box 294, Imperial, SK S0G 2J0 or Catholic Missions in Canada (https://donation.cmic.info). Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
